I've played for Redland since I was 14, working my way through the junior teams and up through the senior section. I went away for 3 years and played hockey for the University of Gloucestershire and then returned to Redland and took on 1st team captaincy for 3 seasons. I love playing for this club and the friends I have made. It's great to be involved in the committee and supporting to move our club forwards.

I joined Redland when I was 12 and have slowly played my way through all the teams. After a break for uni, I took over captaincy of the 2nd team in 2016 for two years, before becoming a social secretary in 2018 and helping to organise our very successful Auction of Promises. Now I'm trying my hand at treasuring! Redland is a great club to be a part of, and I enjoy being on the committee and helping to form our future.

I rejoined Redland in 2016 and have loved playing for such a friendly and positive club. It's a privilege and pleasure to captain the 1's again this season: what a bunch of fantastic players. Team spirit is amazing - we work hard and play hard! I am lucky to have an awesome co-captain in Charli Davidson.

I have been a West Masters player since 2012 and my recent playing highlights include a sliver medal in the England Masters European Championships in 2017 and picking up a medal with the Wereys at Lee Valley in the same year.

    Sarah Thomson
    3rd & 4th Team Manager

I first picked up a hockey stick at the age of 8 but only started playing competitive games from the age of 12 at my secondary school in Scotland. Our PE teacher had played hockey for Scotland and I loved the game so much that I decided to carry on playing at university in York where, in my final year, I was President of the hockey club. I spent a year in France as part of my degree course and played hockey for a french club called Blagnac Hockey club, in Toulouse. After graduating, I joined Oxford Etceteras, now part of Oxford Hawks hockey club, where I played for the 2nds for a season. I then moved to Guildford where I played for their 2nd team for 2 seasons. In 1988, I moved to Kent and joined Tunbridge Wells HC where I played 1st team hockey for 5 years. A move to Devon in 1993 took me to Exeter, where I joined a club known as the Green Dragons. I was captain of the 1st team for one of the 5 seasons I played for them and the highlight was gaining league promotion over Penzance and Exmouth teams. I also enjoyed playing in the Devon County squad. In 1996 our Green Dragons indoor team got through to the National Finals at Crystal Palace - another highlight for me. In 1997, I became a mum and gave hockey a rest until 2002, by which time we'd moved to Bristol and I'd had a second baby. I got fit again and joined Westberries HC, playing for their 2nd and then 1st teams. In 2004, my family moved to Birmingham and I played briefly for Harborne Hockey club before deciding to give playing a rest and concentrate on junior coaching, which I started to do very tentatively for Edgbaston Hockey Club. On our return to Bristol in 2007, I looked around for a club for my own two little junior players and discovered Redland Ladies. It wasn't long before Cath had enrolled me onto the England Hockey Level 1 coaching course and I was involved every Sunday with the Juniors. I didn't actually start playing again till 2013 - reaching the age of 50 makes you do mad things! I played for the 3rd team, which got promoted, then demoted, and then I played for the 4th team and somehow ended up as captain. I was also very privileged to be asked to play for the mighty Redland Wereys Masters team which won the EH Over 45s Plate in 2016 and was runner up in the Over 45s competition in 2017. Hockey has been part of my life for so long, I can't seem to give it up, even though I now can't play, having had one hip replaced and the other possibly needing the same treatment. I manage the 3rd and 4th teams 'remotely' now, although you can sometimes find me by the side of a pitch....

I’ve been playing for Redland from the age of 10, when the junior section was first set up. Having built my way through the club I am now a strong member of the 1st XI team, junior coach and also membership secretary. I have also played for UWIC, Clifton ladies and also represent the Welsh mixed squad in 2012/13/14.

If you have any questions/queries about registration, I’m here to help!

    Mitch Aldridge
    Social Secretary

Started club hockey at 13 with Weston Ladies, played for over 30 years; played county for Avon in my late teens and early 20s. Moved to North Somerset for 4 seasons; and whilst playing for the Wereys, came to Redland. First season 3rd team Captain and gained promotion. Enjoyed success playing with the Wereys; most proud moment scoring at Lee Valley, and its been captured on video; and yes I have shown every one! I love playing, and coaching hockey; and also taken on the Social Sec role for this season. Still very passionate about this sport, and delighted to be part of the Redland hockey family.
