Junior Report October 2018

Published by on

We started junior training on Monday 10th September at Badminton School with an extra session from 7pm to 8pm for 3rd /4th team and older players. The U12s still train from 5pm to 6pm and the U14s from 6pm to 7pm. Numbers have been consistent for the three sessions and we have our usual team of coaches and young leaders.

Our 2018/19 Avon League campaign started on Sunday 30th September with our first U14 match at UWE against City of Bath. We have a team with a lot of new young players so it took us a while to get going in the first half. We soaked up a lot of pressure from the opposition and defended well with some solid defending from Katharine at the back. Lottie made some great saves in goal to keep the score line down but we found ourselves 0-1 down at half time. After the break we settled into a bit of a rhythm and started to play some reasonable hockey. The formation was changed around which seemed to settle the team and we had the occasional foray into the attacking half. Bath had a couple of skilful players and as we tired they took control and scored two more goals to finish worthy 3-0 winners. Our team gained some good experience from this game and have our second game on Sunday 14th October at UWE at 12.30.

The U12s had their first outing in the Avon League at Yate on 7th October. We’ve gained a couple of new players who made good additions to the team. We played 4 games and beat Thornbury 1-0, we drew with Chippenham 0-0, beat Somerset Gryphons 1-0 and lost our final game against a very good Clifton side 0-5. Again the team learnt a lot and there were some very good performances from Cara in goal, Jake was outstanding in defence, Christina made some great runs and passes and Amelia got very involved up front. There were good debuts for Lili, Neve and Tess. Keep up the good work.

Our U10s have their first tournament on 21st October.
