Under 12s Report – March 2019

Published by on

The last Avon League U12 festival was held on Sunday 3rd March at Yate.

We were scheduled to play Clifton Robinsons B, Nailsea, Chippenham and Weston.

We had a strong squad and started well against a very good Clifton side (definitely not a B team). They had some very skilful players but thanks to some great tackling by Jake and team defensive work we managed to contain their attacks and keep the score down to 0-2. Despite the constant pressure we still managed the occasional foray into their circle.

Our next game against Nailsea was a much slower affair and we found it difficult to get into any rhythm. The pace of passing dropped as well as the general work rate. We attacked constantly and a combination of good saves by their goalkeeper and near misses prevented us from scoring. However we managed to find the goal eventually and finished winning the game 1-0.

Our next game was a very even affair against Chippenham with both teams playing very good hockey. We had some lovely play on the right with Gus, Darcy and Lara linking well. Again their goalkeeper made some good saves to keep the score line level at 0-0.

Our last game against Weston was quite physical but we stood up well to the pressure and again played some very good hockey. We changed the formation slightly which paid off, with a strong core of Jake, Christina, Jess and Lara. We dominated play and were awarded a penalty corner which Jess managed to slot away from the edge of the circle to win 1-0.

So we had two wins, a draw and a loss – a very creditable performance. Well done to the squad.
