Under 14s draw level in Avon League

Published by on

We played our first match in the Avon Junior League against Westbury and United Banks on 13 October.

With a strong squad the match started well with the team settling into a good rhythm. Iris linked well with Jess and Sophia and there was some good attacking play down the right. We found ourselves 1-0 up with good persistence from Sophia to slot the goal in from close range.

WUB then found their rhythm and we had to defend well, with Christina making some great tackles. We soaked up a lot of pressure and Lottie made some great saves to keep the ball out with the help of the post and the crossbar until she was beaten by a ridiculously good reverse stick hit which flew past her to make it 1-1 at half time.

We made a few changes in the second half which the team coped very well with, and after Jess went to play right wing, she found herself in the D so shot at goal and scored to make it 2-1. We again pressed and put their defence under pressure on a number of occasions but couldn’t convert again.

With the play going from end to end we were again beaten by a shot from the edge of the D which just beat Lottie to make the final score 2-2.

The team worked extremely hard for each other and it was pleasing to watch a good team performance. The effort levels were great so well done to everyone.

Next game is 20th October against Firebrands at UWE.

Keep up the good work team.
