We had a depleted squad for our second outing in the Avon Junior Hockey League on Sunday 20 October vs Firebrands, but despite this the team played brilliantly and worked very hard.

We started the game well, attacking down the right with Iris, Annie and Annabelle linking well together to put their defence under pressure. It was at the end of one of these attacks that the ball fell on the left post to Lara who slotted it in from close range to make it 1-0.

We continued to press with some good passing and again one of our attacks down the right was again finished off by Lara on the left post to make it 2-0.

Our defence was hardly called into action in the first half and consequently pushed up to try and support our midfield. It was while we had pushed up that Firebrands hit us on the break to score a goal against the run of play to make the half time score 2-1.

We started the second half well with our defence more organised. Christina, Issy and Phoebe had more understanding of covering each other and played very well to keep any attacks from Firebrands out. We continued to attack as a unit and had many opportunities to increase our lead. We created a lot of good chances with some very good movement up front from Cassie, Sophia and Lara. Their goalkeeper was definitely the busier of the goalkeepers on the day which is an indication of how dominant we were. Our midfield worked really hard supporting the attack as well as coming back to help the defence. With neither team able to add to the half time score we finished 2-1 winners.

Well done to the girls for a great team performance and thanks to Tilly for another faultless umpiring performance.
