Our first match in this informal league was played on Sunday 17 November at Badminton School against Westberries. We had a mixture of Back to Hockey players and juniors to make up the squad. Westberries had a couple of very useful adult players who had good stick work and skills.

It took us a while to get into the game and for players to understand their positioning but it was a very even game between the two 25s. Meg held the midfield together well and worked really hard to link the defence and attack. Charli organised the defence and Holly had a couple of good runs on the right. We managed to get the ball into their circle on a couple of occasions in the first half but we mainly defended and managed to keep the score to 0-0 at half time.

A few positional changes were made at half time and Tabitha came into the midfield which strengthened the left. We continued to work very hard but were beaten on a break by Westberries and from a goalmouth scramble when we couldn’t clear the ball out of the circle. With the score at 0-2 we continued to put some good passes together towards the end of the game but the opposition’s defence was solid and we couldn’t quite get through.

This was a good start by the squad and with a couple more games together we’ll improve.

The next games are on 1st December against Bristol and West Jaspers at Badminton at 11.30am and 8th December against Bath Buccs in Bath.
