Under 12s final Avon outing

Published by on

The fourth and final Avon League festival was held on Sunday 1st March at Yate

After a slow start the squad got better as the day went on and played some very pleasing hockey.

Our first match was against Team Bath which is always a tough game, but our tackling wasn’t up to our usual standard and they had a few skilful players who could dribble the ball very effectively. We struggled to get into any rhythm and conceded two goals in this game without reply so the final score was 0-2.

Our second game was against Clifton Robinsons and the team started well, getting into some good patterns of play. The defence tackled a lot better and we moved the ball on quicker. Jake and Amelia linked well on the left, Sidney and Emily linked well on the right and Tom made some decisive clearances from goal. Emily got back into scoring form by finishing off another good attack from a very tight angle to make the final score 1-0.

City of Bath was our third opposition and once again we found ourselves under a lot of pressure. We did better in defence to keep out some skilful players and Tom made some good saves. We eventually pressed into their half but came up against a strong defence and a good goalkeeper. Despite a good performance we conceded two goals late on in the game to lose 0-2.

Our last game was against Nailsea and this was our best but slightly frustrating performance. We dominated play and had numerous chances to score but insisted on too much passing in the circle instead of going for goal. Gus played in attack and got into some great positions but, for some reason,  avoided shooting. We eventually managed to score twice to finish 2-0 winners. It was a good finish to the day and a pleasing performance from the team.

Well done
