Wereys O40s are defending champions at Avon tournament
6 October 2024: On a slightly murky Sunday at Clifton College, the Wereys rocked up excited and determined to defend their spot as Avon O40s Champions.
We welcomed some new ‘youngsters’ into the squad this year alongside the seasoned experience which contributed to a very well-rounded and versatile team.
It took a little while in the first game v Firebrands for Wereys to find their flow but still came away with a deserved 1-1 draw, Buffy on the score sheet. Fortunately, we then found our stride and played some beautiful hockey in the next 4 games, working the ball well up the pitch, and creating several goal scoring opportunities.
Despite some resolute and feisty defending from the opposition, Wereys bagged 4 out of 4 wins:
- 2-0 v Elderberries with goals from Buffy and Summer
- 2-1 v Yate with Nicky and Flo both finding the mark
- 3-0 v Old Bristolians with a brace from Flo and another goal for Buffy
- 1-0 v Winscombe with Nicky bagging her second goal of the day.
As always, a great day of masters hockey, luckily avoiding the rain, and the trophy duly returned to the green army. Same time next year folks!
