Wereys EH O45s campaign comes to an end

2 February 2025: It was a crisp and sparkling day at Lockleaze, however unfortunately the Wereys’ hockey was neither crisp nor sparkling as they were ousted out of the EH Tier 2 O45s competition by Bretforton.

Despite starting strongly, poor distribution, mis-timed tackles and sloppy marking saw the home side go 2-0 down within the first 15 mins. Wereys created several opportunities which they never quite managed to capitalise on until Heidi jumped on a loose ball in the D and found the net.  Wereys unable to maintain possession allowed Bretforton to break and add to their score.  However, a beautiful passage of passing play out of defence enabled Abi to find the mark just before half time and put Wereys back in contention.  In the second half Wereys had the majority of the play, applying pressure on the visitors, but were just not able to convert their chances. Bretforton scored their 4th with a quality penalty corner drag flick and sealed victory. It simply wasn’t Redland’s day. Roll on next year…
