New tier means Wereys reach finals

30 March 2025: Following their loss to Oxford Hawks in February, the Wereys feared that was the end of their EH championships run this season. However to their delight, the O55s were not yet dead and buried, and were offered a reprieve with the introduction of the EH Tier 3 Shield.
A slightly depleted squad of 12 hosted the fairly unknown opposition of LX South O55s. After an energetic warm up and a new formation, Wereys started strongly and were off the mark within the first two minutes with Mandy finishing off a nice passage of attacking play. The game ebbed and flowed with Wereys taking control and demonstrating patient and precise passing (love a bit of alliteration!) and good movement off the ball. Towards the end of the first half, a beautiful through ball from Cath, found Tracy in acres of space to run into the D and deliver a cracking cross to Mitch who converted at the far post. A satisfying 2-0 lead at half time.
Sadly, the second half didn’t quite live up to expectations. Despite being camped out in the attacking 23 for most of the game, and earning a multitude of penalty corners, more goals just didn’t materialize. Naughty Mitch had a wee chat with umpire Jan and then promptly took a rest for two minutes – that was possibly the highlight of the second half! Nonetheless, it didn’t matter, a good job done and the O55s are into the final v Hendon & Mill Hill HC. This will be a 5pm push back on Saturday 3rd May at Nottingham Hockey Centre (we believe!)
