More away days for the 1s in Devon & Cornwall

25 January 2026: Another challenging away weekend for Redland 1s team, this time covering both Devon and Cornwall!

Following a disappointing result against Taunton Vale the previous week (and some careful video analysis) we played a high-tempo game against a solid Plymouth team.  Some sloppy marking in the opening ten mins led to us being 1-0 down, but the Redland resilience kicked in and we managed to pull a goal back through Nina before half time.  We took more control in the second half and showed some good self-discipline considering some challenging umpiring.  As the game unfolded, Nina scored her second to put us ahead.  We then left ourselves slightly exposed at the back, but Chris pulled off some amazing saves until Plymouth scored a cracking goal to finish the game 2-2.

The evening weather deteriorated and Tracey’s off-road driving skills proved useful in the “Management & Whippersnappers‘” trip to the curry house.  This also saw Lisa produce her super-human strength to stop a black BMW from rolling down a narrow side street where the car owner had failed to secure the handbrake properly! A good number of the squad remainder took residence in the Salcombe penthouse to enjoy a gourmet Tesco** meal and where Laura P decided to re-arrange the furniture (mattress) due to the nifty underfloor heating

After admiring the penthouse views in the morning a short journey to sunny Liskeard on Sunday saw us evenly matched with Caradon HC.  However, an early PC from Caradon moved us into action & some more attacking play.  An excellent drag flick from Alice hit the post and Summer followed up to equalise.  There were no further goals in the second half, but we did continue to pepper the Caradon GK without success.

It was a solid performance over the two days and pleasing to gain points away from home.  We’re looking forward to the return game against Caradon.
