Meet Clare Rodgers – Lead Coach

Clare’s first foray into the coaching world began as a player/coach at Old Loughts HC. She had retired from playing international hockey having gained 13 outdoor and 24 indoor caps during her senior international career. Her most memorable appearances include three matches at the old Wembley Stadium in front of loud and excitable capacity crowds. During this period she captained England at the Home Countries Tournament as well as winning a silver and bronze medal in the European Indoor Championships.

Coaching at Loughts she oversaw their promotion to the National League and also did some men’s coaching in Essex. Over a seventeen year period Clare has been a high performance Junior England coach working with the U16, U18 & U21 groups and has also been on the coaching staff at two U21 World Cups. Her junior squad won a silver medal in the U21 European Cup. As Head Coach to the England U18 Women’s side she helped the group to win a Gold Medal in the European 4 Nations Tournament.

In 2008 Clare experienced a successful period working with Hockey Wales culminating in the Welsh U18 women winning a silver medal at the junior European Cup Div 2 Championship ensuring their promotion to the top European division.

Clare is known in the Somerset area as a successful Taunton School hockey coach, ex Head of P.E. and Housemistress. She recently took the opportunity to retire from teaching allowing her to commit more time to club and Talent Development work. She is currently an England Hockey Talent Development Coach, DiSE tutor and Head Coach at the Taunton Performance Centre for girls.  Along side this she has coached the Wessex Leopards at Futures Cups and overseen developmental squads at a number of National School Games events.
