Wereys O45s through to EH Cup quarter finals

15 January 2023: Redland Wereys have reached the Quarter Finals of the O45s EH Masters Cup with a 2-1 victory over Taunton Vale.

Wereys started strongly, putting the Taunton defence under pressure from the outset. It wasn’t long before Wereys were rewarded with a goal, Lucy Joy beautifully converting Linda Webb’s cross. The game was end to end with several opportunities for Taunton to level the score but the Wereys defence stood firm under the superb direction from Chris Chan in goal. Unfortunately despite some excellent linking and attacking play and several short corners, Wereys could not add to their score before half time. The second half was fast and furious as Taunton were on the hunt for an equaliser and eventually their centre forward reaped the reward with a cracking strike. 1-1! With each side eager for another goal, the match became a somewhat feisty affair. Another short corner awarded to the home side, so Wereys sent their secret weapon forward, Cath Coombs, who calmly hit the backboard with a lovely straight strike. Nine minutes remaining on the clock, the longest nine minutes ever, but Wereys dug deep and hung on in to clinch victory.

A great competitive performance from the whole squad and we look forward to welcoming Plymouth to UWE on Sunday 5 February for the quarter final match.
