Wereys through to 3rd round of Avon Cup

22 November 2023: This year the Wereys decided to enter the West Clubs Knockout Cup for O40s, providing more opportunity for some of the younger masters players to have competition hockey.

Having had a bye in the first round, Wereys hosted Keynsham at Abbeywood School.  Despite being an 8pm push back, the Wereys turned up with enthusiasm and bountiful energy as well as lots of layers!   Wereys started superbly well from the initial whistle, demonstrating lovely flowing hockey and applying immediate pressure on the Keynsham defence.  It was clear that a goal was imminent, just a little patience needed, but once the deadlock had been broken there was no stopping the Wereys flow.

There were that many goals that we struggled to recall who was on the scoresheet!  Six goals in the first half, followed by another seven goals after half time – and some were absolute belters.  Contributors to the scoresheet were Netty, Buffy, Summer, Stacey, Lucy, Woody and Zoe, who bagged five on her Wereys debut.

So a 13-0 win takes the Wereys through to the next round, to be played in January, opposition to be confirmed.

Well played one and all!
